Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive cognitive deterioration. The monocyte-chemoattractant protein (MCP) is an inflammatory cytokine produced by activated macrophages and endothelial cells. Tissue factor (TF) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that activates the coagulation cascade. Both factors have been reported to be present in the central nervous system. The aim of the present study was to determine the levels of MCP and TF in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with AD. CSF samples were collected from 24 patients with AD and 18 age-matched controls. We measured MCP and TF levels in the CSF by ELISA. In AD patients, the CSF MCP levels were significantly higher than those in the controls (205.6 pg/ml ± 121.4 vs. 119.2 pg/ml ± 28.9; p = 0.006). In the AD group, TF levels were significantly higher than those in the controls (109.
